Phi Phi Islands Diving Site Information

The main dive sites around Phi Phi include Phi Phi Ley and the neighboring small islands, Bida Nok and Bida Nai. The sites offer a variety of experiences from dynamic drop-offs to calm bay sand flats, catering to both beginner and experienced divers. The marine life is abundant, from macro species like ornate ghost pipefish and seahorses, to schools of trevally and barracuda, with occasional whale shark appearances throughout the year. From December to April, speedboat tours include landing on Phi Phi Don, sightseeing at Maya Bay (made famous by movies), and Monkey Beach. From May to November, tours are conducted on larger dive boats.

Located on the outermost part of the Phi Phi Islands, this limestone reef site features diving from calm shallow bays to circling around towering rocks. In the small shallow bays, blacktip reef sharks swim by, sometimes allowing encounters with over five sharks. Around 20m depth, large schools of golden snappers often swim so densely that if you stay still, fish surround you 360°—a rare experience. Exiting to the open sea may occur, and with luck, barracuda schools or whale sharks might pass by.

A small island with steep cliffs off Phi Phi Ley, Bida Nai has scattered rocks in the shallow areas, along with large sea fans and soft corals creating beautiful scenery. Sandy slopes with small stones lead to deeper areas around 20m. Schools of golden snapper and two-spot snapper are often seen, creating beautiful sunlit underwater views. Occasionally, large blacktip reef sharks swim by but are shy and hard to approach.

Dive along the western side of Phi Phi Ley under towering limestone cliffs. The gaps between rocks often house resting turtles, which inspired the site’s name. Several swim-throughs allow sunlight to filter in, creating a magical underwater atmosphere. Large sea fans are surrounded by dense schools of golden snapper, making for a stunning visual experience. A dive that offers turtles, dramatic terrain, and abundant fish life.

Mushroom Rock, located along the northwest side of Phi Phi Islands, features large scattered reefs covered with colorful pink and yellow soft corals, creating a rich habitat for diverse marine life. Schools of golden snapper and fusiliers provide a dense and lively underwater scene. The northern tip of the island has heavy boat traffic, so divers should take care not to stray too far.
