Bang Tao Beach – Phuket’s premier luxury hotel hub
A roughly 5 km beach located near the center of the west coast. Designed to solve transport and land issues, this is Phuket’s newest and most exclusive luxury resort area. The beach features a long sandy shore and crystal-clear waters, with high-end hotels, golf courses, and spas centered around the Laguna district. Free shuttles and boats circulate between hotels within Laguna, allowing easy access. Outside the area, Bang Tao town offers local shops, giving a glimpse into everyday Thai life.
What is the Laguna area like?
The area called Laguna thrived historically as a tin mining site from the 18th century, operated by Chinese and Portuguese settlers. Tin mining no longer occurs, and the expansive former mining lands have been transformed into a high-end hotel district. The entire Laguna covers approximately 730,000 tsubo (about 2.4 million sq. meters). Currently, five five-star hotels operate here, including Banyan Tree and Sheraton, with a 3 km-long beach directly in front. Staying in this area allows visitors to enjoy all hotel and activity options on site. Ideally, it’s best to stay longer with ample time and budget (most Western travelers stay a week or more). Choose your accommodation according to your resort plan. Staying in Laguna grants free shuttle buses and boats, allowing unlimited access between hotels within the area.
Each hotel is equipped with spas, saunas, gyms, and multiple pools. Laguna also has shopping malls called Villages, 30 restaurants and bars, riding clubs, and golf courses. Staying here lets you fully enjoy hotel life. For active travelers, tropical marine sports are recommended: underwater aerobics, bodyboarding, catamarans, kayaking, scuba diving, trial diving, snorkeling, and windsurfing. With so many options, choosing might be the hardest part. Make the most of your hotel stay. Taxis are available from hotels; from Laguna to Patong Beach costs roughly 1,000 THB.
