Visa and Passport
Passport Validity Period
You cannot enter Thailand unless your passport is valid for at least six months. If your passport has less than one year remaining, you can renew it before travel.
For long-term stays, you must obtain the appropriate visa. Even for a tourist visa, a passport valid for at least six months is required.

Apply for a Visa in Advance for Stays Over 30 Days
Ensure all documents are complete to avoid multiple visits.
For stays under 30 days, a visa is not required.
For stays over 30 days, you must apply for a visa at the Thai Embassy.
Tourists staying less than 30 days do not need a visa. Upon arrival at Bangkok International Airport or Phuket International Airport, immigration will stamp your passport granting 30 days of stay.
If entering Thailand by land, the allowed stay is 15 days, which differs from air travel.
For extended travel, long-term stay, or "long stay" plans exceeding 30 days, obtain a visa from the Thai Embassy either in Japan or abroad. Neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Laos, or Cambodia often serve as locations for visa applications outside Japan.
※Recently, obtaining a tourist visa has become more difficult, so it is recommended to consult the embassy in advance if you wish to acquire one.
Visa Extension for Stays Over 30 Days
Be careful to avoid overstaying.
Tourists entering for less than 30 days can extend their stay at Immigration Offices in major cities. Normally, the first extension adds 2 weeks, and a subsequent extension can add about one more week, depending on the immigration officer's discretion.
To extend, you need one photo, an application form filled on-site, and a fee of 1,900฿. Overstaying without extension will incur a fine of 500฿ per day upon departure.
