Internet access is widespread in Phuket, and most hotels and restaurants provide free WiFi. Depending on the hotel, you may receive the WiFi password during check-in or connect using check-in information. Please confirm the method with your hotel.
At restaurants or other establishments, even if the WiFi is free, make sure to ask the staff for the password before use.
When joining diving or snorkeling tours from Phuket, some boats are equipped with WiFi routers, but signal strength over the sea is weak, making it difficult to use high-quality images or videos. There are also areas, such as around Racha Noi Island or Phi Phi Leh, where there is no signal at all.
There are five ways to use a Japanese mobile phone in Thailand:
1. Purchase and use a Thai SIM card (device must be SIM-unlocked)
2. Use international data roaming from a Japanese mobile carrier
3. Use free WiFi services in Thailand (phone functions cannot be used; set device to airplane mode)
4. Use a pocket WiFi device (phone functions cannot be used; can be purchased or rented in Japan or at the airport)
5. Tether from a companion's device (phone functions cannot be used)
