Electricity in Phuket

Voltage for Electrical Appliances

Unlike Japan, Phuket uses 220 volts and 50 Hz. If you want to use Japanese electrical appliances, a voltage converter is required. Plugging Japanese appliances directly into Phuket outlets can cause damage (in fact, it will almost certainly break them), so please exercise caution.

Cameras and Video Equipment May Work Directly

Nowadays, many devices (digital camera chargers, laptops, hair dryers, electric shavers, etc.) support up to 240V for overseas use. Usually, the supported voltage is listed on the power adapter, so be sure to check it before use.

Plug Types: Compatible with Japanese Plugs or Available Locally

Most hotel power outlets in Phuket can accommodate Japanese plugs directly (note the voltage difference!). If you are concerned about plug types, BF and C types are commonly used. You can either bring an adapter or purchase one at convenience stores or supermarkets in Phuket.
