In Japan, firearms such as pistols and rifles cannot be used, but in Thailand, shooting is allowed only at designated ranges. In Phuket, there are two shooting ranges: one in the Kathu area, close to Patong (about 10 minutes from Patong Beach), and the other in the Chalong Bay area in the southeast of the island (about 30 minutes from Patong Beach).
Even first-timers can try shooting, as instructors guide you on loading live bullets and proper shooting stance.
Various guns are available, including .22 caliber rifles, standard pistols in .38 and .44 caliber, and large shotguns. The .22 caliber rifle offers high precision but has minimal recoil and noise (comparable to firecrackers, manageable even for women). For a more authentic experience like in movies or TV, try a .38 revolver or a .44 automatic pistol. Both have strong recoil and loud noise that can be felt without ear protection, and proper handling under instructor guidance is necessary. The most powerful experience comes from the shotgun. The low "bang" resonates through the body, and smaller individuals need a firm stance to handle the recoil. While opinions on firearms vary, trying it once can be exciting.
