Among the 29 Buddhist temples on Phuket Island, Wat Chalong is the largest and most revered by locals. Every day, many worshippers and tourists visit. The main hall enshrines two revered monks, Luang Pho Cham and Luang Pho Chang, who quelled a Chinese immigrant rebellion in Phuket in 1876. Locals believe these monks possess mystical powers, and their veneration continues to this day. Visitors often apply gold leaf to their statues and offer lotus flowers and incense daily.
Tourists can also participate in traditional practices, such as having monks chant blessings or donating flowers and incense, which are available for purchase at the temple.
When visiting, please observe proper etiquette. Women may be denied entry if wearing revealing clothing. Remember to remove shoes or sandals before entering the temple grounds.
