Phuket Sightseeing Guide

Tonsai Waterfall

Located in the northeastern part of Phuket Island within Khao Phra Thaeo National Park, this is the most famous waterfall in Phuket.

The waterfall itself is not very large, but surrounded by the lush greenery of Thailand’s tropical rainforest, it offers a unique atmosphere different from waterfalls in Japan, making it a great spot for nature lovers.

The area around the waterfall is part of the national park and has trekking trails, allowing for a short trek of about an hour. The trails are mountain paths and can be muddy on rainy days, so it’s recommended to wear proper shoes. The forest is very quiet, and you can really feel the refreshing air, offering a peaceful retreat away from the lively beaches—an ideal spot for those seeking relaxation.

There are benches and tables nearby, making it perfect for a picnic. Families can enjoy water play and nature walks. There is also a small zoo and a pond near the waterfall.

However, during the rainy season, leeches may be present on the trekking paths. Leeches are not dangerous, and even if they attach, there is no risk of infection. While their appearance is not attractive, there’s no need to worry.

  • Access: About 40 minutes by car from Patong Beach
