Thai Boxing - Muay Thai

The first sport that comes to mind when thinking of Thailand is Muay Thai, Thai-style kickboxing. In recent years, mixed martial arts have become popular in Japan, and Thai Muay Thai fighters competing in Japan are increasingly featured on television.
Muay Thai originated in the 15th century during the Ayutthaya Kingdom. It was developed as a method for the Ayutthaya army to defeat enemies with bare hands. Western boxing rules were later incorporated, forming modern Muay Thai. Unique rhythms of gongs, drums, and flutes, along with the elegant pre-fight dance and the Wai prayer to the gods, mark the beginning of an electrifying match.
